3 Everest stars The Asset by Anna del Mar sounded so good It had some of my favorite things in it Military men being at the top of that list but sadly for me this was just a mediocre read I thought it started strong and grabbed my interest I liked Ash I liked his damaged testy self I thought he was sexy smart and sweet under all the gruff I also liked Lia I thought she was brave sweet and a fighter But I had a few problems with the book For one the book really dragged for the first half It took me almost 3 days to read this book and for me who whips through books within a day most of the time that is like forever Also I felt a total disconnect with Lia and Ash's relationship It felt very superficial to me I felt like I missed big parts of their relationship which leads to another problem I had with this book It kinda jumped around Don't get me wrong jumping forward in books is fine at times but I felt this book jumped past or just skimmed important details of their relationship that would have helped us readers connect with them feel their love understand how they even fell in love to begin with With that being said The sex in this book was steaming Anna del Mar can write some really sexy scenes Also her bad guy was top notch evil and creepy This book got dark at times Lia's past was a hard one to read about I really liked the other guys in this book especially Will I wouldn't mind reading Will's book if he gets one Overall I felt this author and series shows potential This is her first book in the series and I am always lenient when it comes to the first book in a series Though this wasn't a great hit with me I would give this author another shot Especially if it's Will's book HINT HINT

'The Asset' by Anna del Mar is book one in the Wounded Warrior series This is the story of Lia Stewart and Ash Hunter Lia has been hiding out in the Rocky Mountain cabin that her older friend had left for her That friend happened to be Ash Hunter's grandmother Lia is trying to hid from a very abusive relationship and is on edge all the time Lia posted a room for rent sign in town for what she was hoping would be a female room mate but Ash shows up scaring her at first Ash was hurt very badly in the military and now just up and left the hospital so he is kind of on the run too Lia end up taking him in after she learns how sick he is and that he was her friends grandson Lia has a soft spot for wounded animals and Ash seems to fit right in with that But Lia is having a hard time with her feeling up being scared around him and also scared that he might be put in danger just being around her This was sometimes hard to read book at the end when Lia went over her previous life In addition Ash was facing some tough heath issue too This book does have what I thought was a lot of drama and tough story subjects but that is what I understood what I was getting when I checked this book out So I was not surprised or disappointed Sometimes it is nice to get a drama filled romance than my usually boy meets girl and girl falls for boythen just a misunderstand holds them backthis was not that type of book Lia was always scared for her feelings for Ash that he might be hurt by the person from her past Enjoyed it overallexciting read Please follow reviews at the below sites

Ms Del Mar’s first novel is fantastic start to a new series It is emotional and not for the faint hearted as there are some triggers in the book mainly rape pedophilia and physical and mental abuse among other things Now I have when involving children so to be honest I skipped that part of the book I have a vivid imagination so I don’t need that in my life Ash Hunter did a hospital break as they were threatening to remove part of his leg due to infection He lands on Lia’s front doorstep with a shotgun to his face Lia is scarred from her past and leery of men things start to change when she meets Ash Lia becomes Ash’s caregiver in exchange for no uestions and protection for the moment from a mountain lion but the one who is still looking is a lot dangerousI don’t want to give too much away so I’ll leave it at the review that I’ve posted Consider it short and sweet this review not the book Ms Del Mar writes well and it flows well with humor and banter making me smile at the beginning Now I personally think that this is worth a read so go get a copy ProntoNow this is just me but I really want to read some romantic suspense with different characters not always the same old same old This is my personal opinion therefore it should be taken at face value nothing and nothing less Review can also be found at received by Carina Press via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

45 Stars round upI slated this book to be read while I walked on the treadmill If I wanted to read I had to walk I used it as my exercise incentive and it worked I walked a lot trying to read this book than I did without the incentiveI found the plot gripping and intense with characters who totally captivated meI really liked both Ash and Lia and was intrigued with their respective stories as well as the building of feelings between them Their characters were well developed and although wounded and scarred they both had an inner strength that kept them going Their respective strengths and weaknesses complimented each other and they really felt like they fit togetherI was pulled immediately into Lia's story and her heart wrenching past Note This book does contain triggers for rape and being held captive Ash was the perfect warrior to rescue her from a man who had a sick obsession of her and she in turn was what Ash needed after his tragic wounds in Afghanistan This book does show what wounded warriors are faced with on the home front I'm a sucker for dogspets in books and really liked the incorporation of Neil Ash's German Shepherd service dog The dog's character was very developed and the dog's service aspect was handled very well in the story I would have liked a little development of some of the other human secondary charactersview spoilerI did take issue with Ash using the laptop to secretly film a sex scene of him and Lia which he later used to incite an emotional reaction from the man who had previously kidnapped raped and held Lia as a prisoner for a number of years in her young life Even though it was done in the end justifies the means it felt like a betrayal and it seemed out of character for Ash hide spoiler

I don’t usually read mf romantic suspense but the description of this book reeled me in The heroine –Lia– is hiding out in a small Rocky Mountain town from a deadly cartel when Ash knocks on her door looking to rent a room She is damaged on the inside but he is damaged inside and out by his service in Afghanistan They recognize something kindred in each other and a friendship is born As it turns into something all of Lia’s secrets begin to come out and Ash puts himself on the line to keep her safeOverall I enjoyed the story though I did have a few small complaints Ash is great hero material He is strong but also vulnerable because of his injuries and PTSD At first we really only see the vulnerability in Lia but her strength becomes apparent as her story unfoldsI liked the way the relationship between these two evolved The way Lia took on the role as Ash’s caretaker was a little flimsy but otherwise I believed in the steady growth of their relationship I liked their friendship and the little glimpses of something This was a slow burn –and it needed to be In fact once we learned the details of Lia’s history it was hard for me to believe she could ever let a man touch her at all I like that she had a chance to be a white knight for Ash before he returned the favor to come to her rescue as wellI felt like I really understood Lia’s character especially once I learned what happened to her It was a little less so with Ash We know he’s a war hero and a good guy but that’s about it It’s enough I guess for the story’s purpose but I would have liked to have known him better especially since he was the draw for me to pick up the book Overall though I liked him –and I liked him with Lia which is the most important thingThe things that I liked less about the book all had one thing in common –that they felt over the top Lia’s history for instance? I expected bad but not that bad It was a lot Then there was how Ash resolved things I don’t want to spoil the details but again nothing so simple as testifying against the bad guy or just blowing him away It’s all so unrealistic Now I said at the beginning that this isn’t my normal genre Maybe it’s just accepted that you go big or go home But it gave me pauseThe book does live up to the promise of its premise and it’s the start of a new series So if wounded warriors are your cuppa tea and you like Dire Circumstances with a side of Extreme Measures I’d suggest you give this one a tryRating B ARC provided by publisher

The Asset is a book with an agenda but it’s an agenda I can get on board with if it’s done right My father is a disabled vet and I have many friends and family members who are military so wounded warriors are a subject near and dear to my heart The book showcases what veterans deal with once they get home Before you read this story be aware that it is full of some pretty heavy hitting triggers view spoilerrepeated rape starting when the victim was a child slavery violence miscarriage hide spoiler
