This was a great book about the Atonement I think something as expansive and all encompassing as the Atonement lends itself to really vague discourse when being written about This book however does a good job at talking specifically about different ways that the Atonement can affect our lives More than a retread of Miracle of Forgiveness this book deals in large part with the lesser spoken aspects of the Atonement that of peace of mind healing of mind and body and overcoming of weakness and anger I particularly enjoyed the chapter dealing with the ordinances of the restored Gospel and how the Atonement is manifest within them I think the main strength of this book is its practicality Instead of trying to grapple with the mysteries of the Atonement the author uses examples scriptures and modern day prophets he uotes extensively from Elder Maxwell to show the downstream effects the Atonement can have in our lives The whole book could be summed up pretty well by a uote appearing early on in the book itself This is clearly not only an intellectual learning process but also reuires the related experiences of life and the meekness to learn from them Elder Neal A Maxwell describes this learning process We cannont really learn any deep or lasting things about Jesus unless we take His yoke upon us Thenthe relevant experiences will teach us keenly and deeply about Him and His divine attributes It ends with a powerful comparison between our lives and the Children of Israel as they journeyed through the wilderness for 40 years What journey is taking us 40 years to accomplish because we are not taking advantage of the blessings of the Atonement to finish the journey instead in 11 days
