Due to a fluke in the publisher's agenda this humorous satirical science fiction novel has not yet been published despite it being ready as early as 2017 I did however manage to get a pre alpha copy from where my advance review of the 2017 version Since the novel's publishing date was pushed forward for late 2019 2020 in favour of its successful multi million dollar cousin by the same brilliant author the Vivian Amberville series I found it only just to attract attention to this amazing and hilarious story about humanity consciousness and the meaning of lifeEnter a futuristic England where human kind has completely been replaced by robots Some of them are sentient and completely purposeless whereas some operate under a rudimentary software which sets them off into a loop For this reason the humanless post apocalyptic world is populated by towers upon towers of useless junk that some robots can't stop themselves from producingIn this sterile world paved to saturation in concrete highways meet 22 8 a decomissioned social robot who finds himself on a uest to answer Why have the humans abandoned us? He joins forces with Repeater Sweeper and Floater 3 work robots of which only the later seem to have developped some form of artifical intelligence To 22 8's great shock the humans have been extinct for so long that the world of robots have stopped believing in their existence altogetherSweeper is a lovable robo religious nutcase who genuinely believes all robots have been created by a Robot God from whence the title of the novel He refuses to believe humans are anything than a figment of a robot's imagination even when presented with evidence of their existence a human skull for instance which he discards and dubbs as blasphemous Sweeper is a self made AI who worships the Source Code like a heaven sent holy book when it reality it is a simple technical manual for an ancient sweeping machine Floater is charismatic and off the shelf sassy and the only one from the uartet euipped with an AGAnti Gravity unit There are huge reveals about him which I will not list hereRepeater the only non AI of the bunch is a simpleton in every respect who often parrots funny words or phrases he picks up without a filter He is hilariously sweating coolant every time he is subjected to a captcha testFinally 22 8 is a compassionate mediBot and the voice of reason in th story Since he used to actually care for human beings he is the only one convinced of their existence The journey the robots take is peppered with popular references and satirical underpinnings of our modern worldSome funny uotes from the top of my head include Why was I programmed to feel pain? and grab them by the keyboardEnding is absolutely AMAZING and MIND BLOWING It actually adds a whole layer of meaning to the title of the novel In short God is a Robot is a hilarious yet deep journey into what it means to be human Next to Vivian Amberville this is my absolute FAVOURITE ficitional universe from the mind of Louise Blackwick
