How do we lay block paving driveways?
Step 1: Preparation and Excavation
Our team begins by marking out the area where the driveway will be installed, ensuring proper dimensions and alignment with the property. Next, the existing surface is excavated to the required depth to accommodate the sub-base and paving blocks. Any debris, vegetation, or obstacles in the path of the driveway are removed during this process to ensure a clean and level surface for the installation.
Step 2: Sub-base and Base Layer
Once the site is prepared, our team proceeds with laying the sub-base for the block paving driveway. This typically involves spreading and compacting a layer of aggregate material, such as crushed stone or gravel, to create a solid foundation. Proper compaction of the sub-base is essential to prevent settling and ensure the stability of the driveway surface.
Step 3: Installation
Our team carefully arranged the blocks according to the desired pattern, taking care to maintain even spacing and alignment. Edging restraints are installed along the perimeter of the driveway to secure the paving blocks in place and prevent shifting over time. Once all the blocks are laid, our team applies kiln-dried sand to fill the joints between the blocks, stabilising them and providing additional support.
