The Survivor is the third book in the Families of Honor series This is the first series by Shelley Shepard Gray that I have read from start to finish As I have just finished this series I have a very satisfied and happy feeling about the way this series has gone Although I really wouldn’t mind one book just to see how everyone is doing I feel like there is still story to tell in Jacob’s Crossing One of the things I have really liked about this series is the fact that there has been a lot going on in each of the books That kept them interesting and that kept them fast reads The Survivor was a very fast read mostly because there was so much going on I just wanted to see what was going to happen next Shelley’s writing style also keeps the story moving at a good pace The only problem I had with this book is that there were a few cliches that are seen in too many romances The back and forth thing with Mattie and Graham felt a bit overdone and not very realistic Also the storm I initially felt was a bit of a cliche but Shelley used it in a positive way that fit in with the theme of the book When I first read what the story was about that Jenna was claiming Graham was the father of her baby I thought it sounded a little too much like bad daytime television But as I have come to expect from Shelley Shepard Gray she wrote it very well and it made for a good story of redemption So overall The Survivor is a very good book Shelley definitely took some risks with this book as she tells us in her letter to the reader but they were well worth it and effective

I was lucky enough to have received this through the Goodreads giveawaysThis is the third book in the series and I have no read the previous volumes So coming into this book without any background the author has done a pretty good job of making it a stand alone story At times she does allude to some previous events that could have used just a bit elaboration to make them understandable in the context of the story but it was not that much of a distractionMattie has obviously been through a lot in her young life and she is now ready to find love and create a life of her own Graham has always been her best friend but should they explore another type of relationship? This book leads us through that journey as Graham sees his reputation and standing in the community sullied by gossipsThe story held my interest and moved at a nice pace with well developed characters The only weakness I found was in the ending There was an epilogue to tell the reader what happened to all but two of the main characters after they had weathered their storms We had been led to a direction for Jenna but the book never laid it out and never revealed if she had kept her promise I would have been nice to have all the loose ends tied upThe book was a light pleasant read with just a bit of hope to lift the spirit

Title THE SURVIVORAuthor Shelley Shepard GrayPublisher Avon InspireAugust 2011ISBN 978 0 06 202063 5Genre InspirationalAmishromanceMattie Lapp has survived breast cancer Now she wants to reenter the world of the living Since her long time love Graham Weaver is dating Jenna Yoder Mattie asks Graham to set her up with some of the men he works with at his job But Graham is strangely reluctant He finally agrees but none of the young men seem to fit Graham has been dating Jenna since Mattie doesn’t seem to be as interested in him as he’d like and he’s trying to move on But he soon realizes that he and Jenna don’t suit so they break up Unfortunately Jenna isn’t as ready to move on She tells everyone that she’s pregnant and insists that the baby is Graham’s Graham denies it vehemently claiming he never even kissed Jenna but that doesn’t stop his family from taking Jenna in and insisting that he do the right thingJenna knows she’s lying and she knows who the real father is but she believes that admitting the truth would be worse than the lie she’s spreading Will Jenna’s lies tear Mattie and Graham apart and keep them from admitting to each other the love they’ve always felt? Or will she do the right thing and admit to the truth?THE SURVIVOR is the third and final book in Ms Gray’s Families of Honor series The series is about the brothers in the Weaver family and how they all find love I would recommend reading the books in order so you know all the stories in whole but if you don’t have the earlier books or if it’d been awhile since you’ve read them THE SURVIVOR has enough back story in it to keep the reader from guessing what is going on Mattie is a character I can deeply relate to as I’ve been where she’s been and traveled those same roads I wanted her to find a man to love her for herself and not a relationship based on physical appearance It’s hard to feel beautiful when you’ve had a mastectomy and are bald Graham is a stellar hero who’s been with Mattie taking care of her every need since she was first diagnosed and I was glad he argued that he really wasn’t the father of Jenna’s baby I wanted to encourage him to stay strong even when the pressure mounts I highly recommend THE SURVIVOR and the other books in this series Discussion uestions are included at the end of the book 1299 294 pages

After finishing this book I had to stop myself from looking outside to check the damage from the tornado That's compelling writing Gray is one of the best in the business and I can't wait to read what she writes next
