On the one hand I appreciated this book Cooke comes out and says things that need to be said about Christian media He calls into uestion some of the philosophies attitudes and behaviors that need to change if Christian media is going to be a thriving part of contemporary cultureOn the other hand there were several aspects of the book that I didn't care forThe suggestions are foggy This is probably the least serious of my complaints Since Cooke is trying to be somewhat I prophet of coming times I could understand the lack of specifics The shift taking place overall in media today is somewhat hard to predictThe examples are fuzzy This book was strengthened by the fact that Cooke himself owns a media company because he's seen behind the scenes of what goes on in Christian media and what motivates those who make it However his involvement also weakens the book He winds up not really calling too many people to the carpet and I think that's because he still has to protect his business interestsThe self promotion gets a little old Sure it's increasingly the nature of the publishing business to tout yourself your blog your other publications and your company where possible when you're writing but Cooke gets a little heavy handed in this department Definitely in this process readers do get pointed towards some good resources albeit with some nausea at all the self promotion along the wayThe organization of the book was a little messyThis is worth a uick read but its not uite the cultural barn burner that I was expecting it to be

Even if you have nothing to do with media as a Christian you're still being bombarded by it on a daily basis And chances are you know what's good and what's not In this insightful book Phil Cooke offers the reader an irreverent look at Christian media in particular and some of the challenges that are being faced in this new age of media revolution As he notes near the conclusion of the book that he is not anti traditional or anti religious media he's anti bad stupid and pointless media And with enough thought provocation throughout the book Christian media ought to steer itself headlong into the exciting new horizons this new media age affords us
