review Someday Jennifer

What if the only way forward is to go backPeter is stuck The promise of his youth has petered out into a comfortable but lonely adulthood his career is flat his friendships exist only on Facebook and his romantic life is well past its expiry date But one night spurred on by a viewing of Back to the Future after one too many drinks he has an idea that he will just go back Back to the moment when his path stretched out ahead of him when happiness was an everyday feelin Peter feels sick of the world right now everything is spiralling downwards he lost his job and not even the music is what it used to be Heading towards a clinical depression he decides to go back to a time when things were easierThis is a perfect feel good book The characters are lovable funny and close to home and going as a red thread through it all is a love for the eighties music and film It s exciting to learn how Peter solves his time travelling wishes without actually having a time machineA book for anyone who ever felt stressed about everything moving too fast or who sometimes longs back to the good old days Or just for someone who wants a break from books with violence sex and sneaky charactersA totally lovable read

G and not something to be chased Back to when his worst problem was which pair of acid washed jeans to wear to when the perfect girl sat next to him in English class Back to Fired up by his new mission Peter packs up his life turns off his cellphone and moves back into his teenage bedroom He lets his hair grow long stuffs himself into those same acid washed jeans and resolutely ignores everything about the world that didn’t exist in the mid eighties Throwing himsel I felt like I need to review this for some reason First of all it s not a great book in almost all possible ways The language is by no means anything that will stand out and mostly the dialogues are just plain awkward I read the book in original language in Finnish which might contribute to this but I can t imagine them being much better in any languageThe characters including the main one is just thin as a slice of a decent blowfish and I can imagine most people would like to meet them as much as trying to eat one unless they are of course completely insaneEverything in the plot is predictable from the very beginning You can just tell what is going to happen Everyone does You will be hoping a surprise to come at the end and it will in the exact way you imagined it would be There are no possible way to include spoilers in this reviewYet I liked this book I might even read it again in English to see if it s even better that way And why is this Because I grew up in the 80 s and all the songs lyrics and events simply took me back and made me feel nostalgic throughout the book This is also probably the first time I wish and believe a mullet worn by anyone made sense and also looked awesome you ll find outThis book is a trip to the 80 s That s what it is all about Probably even better if you re Finnish so you ll get even the domestic nostalgia on top of the music You ll remember what a Kulkuri bike looked like It s just a bit better I imagineI also liked this book a little bit for a simple reason that it gives us hope It gives hope for us beyond our youth who hope one day to write a book despite being older than most first time authorsIf you love 80 s you ll like the book You can t help it Give in to it

What a sweet and fun book My favourite character was the father who came to life with the Atlas project Going “back in time” in the present was also a humorous and original idea My only criticism was that Peter seemed like a 26 year old to me than a 46 year old Granted he was portrayed as a shy immature nerd but he really didn’t come off as a 46 year old at all It didn’t matter though since he was an endearing an
