FOUR STARSNetgalley ARCBR with Mel I like the way you feel I like discovering new things about your body how you react to my touch to my kiss to my body when it's inside yours You are a book that deserves to be read over and over again In this next installment William and Raven’s love grows even stronger William will do anything to keep Raven safe and is determined to help her get retribution from those who have wronged her in the past But his thoughtfulness ends up backfiring on him and puts Raven in a precarious situationThere seems to be no end of villains who are out to dethrone William I lost track of how many vampires in the Consilium had their own hidden agendas and I found it hard to remember everyone’s name and what their purpose was in the story I think that this caused it to drag a bit for me There were just too many different characters being thrown in and all seemed to either want to assassinate William or to put an end to Raven and William’s love affair It was making my head spin We learn that Raven is linked to the Curia and that person threatens William to either release her to his custody or he will bring the wrath of the Curia down upon him William must decide which means to him—Raven or the citizens of Florence that he rules over Throughout the story we still get some very steamy moments between the two and it’s clear that they are so much in love with each other that they can’t bear to be apart William’s maker and circumstances that brought him to become a vampire are revealed It was at this point that the story started to really pick up momentum A ton of action starts to happen after about the 50% mark and we learn by the end that William’s plan to keep Raven safe may have actually landed her in serious danger I can’t wait to get the last book to see how it all turns out for these twoSo even though the beginning dragged I still would recommend this one because the story completely turns around during the latter half

The second book in 'The Florentine' series 'The Shadow' continues the story of William and Raven After a brief separation the two find their way back to each other despite their obvious differences Finally being honest about his feelings William and Raven seem to have found happiness in their relationship only to have William's responsibilities as the prince wreak havoc on their livesPerhaps it is just me but this time around the storyline seemed a little flat to me Don't get me wrong I enjoyed every minute but the twists and turns didn't elicit the anxiety or anticipation that I'd expect in a suspenseful story Instead it seemed to flow pleasantly with minimal conflict until close to the end Then when things happened that should have been upsetting I felt somehow removed from the events There was a disconnect for me that is hard to explainAside from feeling a bit removed from the battle for Florence at the end I was captivated by this story Brief appearances by Professor Gabriel Emerson piued my interest I'm dying to know how things work out for him and Julia Raven's loved ones also play a prominent role in this book Her strained relationship with her younger sister and mother is prominently displayed while she comes face to face with the cause of that strife The priest who offered her solace is also intertwined in her current life in ways that she had never imaginedOverall this was a fantastic continuation of this story It ends with a bit of a twist and I'm looking forward to seeing how everything plays out in the next book

45 StarsThe Shadow opens with an uninterrupted timeline from The Raven as William and Raven are committed to each other wholeheartedly There isn’t anything William won’t do for his Cassita and when he promised to give the gift of vengeance for her past he takes his oath seriously It is at this point when Raven’s character shines as the true protector and defender for those who were harmed As William admires Raven’s strength and resilience there are other forces that will continue to test their union and William’s rightful position on the throne “I came to Florence in search of beauty and hope” “Beauty?” She frowned “Perhaps you didn’t look hard enough” “On the contrary I was rewarded with both Now I must save her” William has been the reigning prince of Florence for hundreds of years and while he is an old and powerful vampyre there are various factions with his Consilium conspiring to unseat his sovereignty Those vying for his position are numerous and their surreptitious plans add to the tension of William and Raven’s relationship The vampyres view humans as food or pets; therefore William must be protective of Raven at all times and also defend his city “I won’t break you Whatever harm I bring to you I vow to heal” Added to the threat of a possible mutiny William must protect his principality from the dreaded Curia a powerful group of humans who regulate vampyres to ensure peace from dark forces An unexpected ally of the Curia is revealed and it complicates Raven’s allegiance to her family and true love If power hungry vampyres and the Curia aren’t enough the investigation of the stolen Botticelli illustrations is still pending and the police inspector is hell bent on exposing the mysterious William YorkFor me this multilayered plot with abundant characters was well choreographed From the beginning the stage is being set and then at midpoint the plot explodes with action and there were times when I wasn’t sure who to trust We also learned much about William’s human life and how he was made which was a crucial point in his character development and enriches the plot I must say that I loved that part Additionally Raven’s character continues to grow and I simply adore her loyalty and unwavering trait as a protector view spoilerI do wonder if she will ever drink William’s blood and become a vampyre Part of me feels she should remain human but another part wants them to have that stronger bond hide spoiler

The Shadow is the second installment in Sylvain Reynard's The Florentine series There is so much world building going on in this continuation I found it very informative about the history and structure of the vampire world In my perspective some parts were dry but there was plenty to keep me engaged and eager for the next installment such as romance actionsuspense vengeance betrayal and some family drama of the human variety The Shadow was a likable continuation in my opinion and I plan to finish out the series My favorite uote “Love creates; it doesn't destroy”The Florentine series includes the following installments as of November 2017#05 The Prince 2015#1 The Raven 2015#2 The Shadow 2016#3 The Roman 2016

The Shadow is a lush passionate and complex story filled with romance art history and suspense I am not a huge fan of paranormal stories but I make an exception for Sylvain Reynard’s books I LOVE the Gabriel’s Redemption series and Professor Gabriel Emerson makes an appearance here What could you ask for?William and Raven are reunited in this story but William is battling forces who are trying to sabotage him He has finally found the love of his life and he wants nothing than to worship Raven forever “I will never have your nobility of spirit or your protective nature but as long as I have your love I can be content” William will stop at nothing to protect Raven from both other vampires and from those who scheme to drive them apart There is lots of action and mystery written in the style that is completely uniue to Sylvain Reynard This is a very sensual and passionate book and even if you do not usually read paranormal romance you will love this story The streets of Florence seem to come alive We also learn about William’s early life and the tragic story of how he lost his first love Raven is completely trusting of him and along with the intrigue there is also a little humor here too “You’re giving me a toothache”He pulled back “How is that possible?”She laughed “It’s a figure of speech It means you’re being too sweet Say something awful”William’s expression changed and he brought his lips to her ear “I want to take you back to the house so I can spread you on my bed and do all kinds of wicked things to you” I can’t wait to see what happens next The Shadow is a beautifully written book and my favorite in the Florentine Series so far Lush lyrical passionate and very intense The outtakes are absolutely fantastic Don’t miss it ARC provided by the publisher in return for an honest review

The Prince The Raven The Shadow connect our beloved Gabriel Series to Sylvain's new paranormal Florentine SeriesYOU NEED TO READ THE RAVEN BEFORE READING THE SHADOWAnd if you haven't already read THE PRINCE first and before that The Gabriel Trilogy ☺This 3rd book starts with a little time travel we see how William lost his first love many 100 years ago Then we go visit the Emersons to kill them?No he promised Raven not to hurt thembut he'll have a little talk with GabrielAnd then we go back to present time FlorenceWilliam has just gotten over his stupidity and told Raven that he loves her and that he has a surprise for herThat surprise is her former step father in a cell in William's basement The step father who molested her little sister and the person responsible for her bad legBut Raven is extremely upset about all that She's not sure what to do nowThen there's still the problem of a traitor in the Prince's 'government'And the police have still not given up on finding the person responsible for the theft of the Boticelli IllustrationsWilliam has his hands full in this book with politics and his new love life et cetera What will happen to The Prince Raven? What will happen to Gabriel Julianne? Will everybody die at the end? oOOr will there be a horrible Cliffhanger?I'm not telling you that of course ☺I don't want to spoil too much ☺well there's not really a Cliffhanger well maybe there kinda isbut not a really bad one ☺═════════════════════════════════First I have to say that I'm not really a fan of supernatural books But since I love Sylvain's Gabriel series and Gabriel has a little part in here too I really wanted to read thisAnd I really enjoyed it It's not like all those vampire books or tv shows you always see We don't have guys running around with blood dripping all over their faces no bloody fights all the time It's a real classy story It's about love and pain and loss and politics and the past and the future About Art and the city of Florence There's suspense and intrigue and mystery and romance And it's so wonderfully written by Sylvain he has this amazing writing style that's just so different from other books ☺This second book in the series was a tiny little bit too political for me though I want my romances to be romances and William has soooo much to do and to worry about with being the Prince so that the romance part gets pushed too far back But other readers might love that ☺But it's still very sexy and romantic and exciting and suspensy I really love William and Raven togetherThey're soo completely different yet they just belong togetherBut it'll be hard with him being what he is I really hope there will be a very happy end for them one dayNow I can't wait for the next book in the series I need to know what will happen to William Raven next and of course we want to see the Emersons again ☺ If you loved THE GABRIEL SERIES and even if you're not a HUGE fan of vampires you need to read THE Florentine Series IT'S BEAUTIFUL ☺

Raven and William continue their passionate relationship in The Shadow but there are things brewing in the background that become front and center by the end of the book One of the things I like best about this series is Raven and William’s romance There’s never a uestion about their love they’re completely devoted to one another to the point of obsession No worries of a third party causing doubts here Instead of looking for their own gain both Raven and William are selfless in their affections William in a virtuous attempt to find justice for Raven makes some missteps that really cost her emotionally but he meant well Raven is a completely selfless character always looking out and protecting the downtrodden She’s slowly resurrecting William’s conscience by challenging his thinking and just by being around her making him a better manAs far as the plot William’s brethren are scheming to overthrow him as Prince and take over the principality of Florence William knows there’s traitor in his midst but doesn’t know who or how far this traitor’s influence and plans go The traitor’s identity isn’t revealed until the end It’s apparent that Aoibhe pronounced Ava isn’t all that she seems to be I have to say I’ve disliked and distrusted Aoibhe from the beginning I didn’t understand Raven’s stance on view spoilerbecoming a vampire hide spoiler

“Here is a feast for my senses as well as my heart” Well what can I say that I haven’t said before? Honestly Hands down my favourite book in this series which once truly showcased the brilliance of Sylvain Reynard’s writing This Author has always had a moving and striking way with words and once I was amazed at the perfection and beauty It’s not just words; it’s poetry – it’s listening to a song whilst the heart beats in tandem to the tune – furiously thumping its way into a rising crescendo “I’d forgotten”“You’d forgotten what?”“What it’s like to be loved” The Shadow had everything any reader of romance and paranormal seek to find in a story It had excellent pace with moments of sheer passion intrigue mystery action and utterly stunning romance‘A bird in a cage is never as beautiful as a bird that is free’Reading this in one sitting I didn’t come up for air as I followed the continuing journey of the beautiful sweet soul; Raven and the distinguished passionate and somewhat arrogant Prince of Florence; William “You’re mine now No one touches you No one hurts you And everyone who has will pay” The Shadow will captivate every sense of your being with vivid imagery an enthralling story and characters who steal your heart Of harrowing pasts and memories – loyalties treason and war This sensual mesmerising thrilling and refined series reminds me of why I fell in love with the paranormal romance genre many years ago It felt like coming home “You’re a dream A dream of love I never thought I’d have” ♥ ♥ ♥Come say hi and follow us at✦ TotallybookedBlog✦ TB on Facebook✦ TB on Twitter✦ TB on Pinterest
